Sam Secomb
Chartered Financial Planner and Director

As Director of Business and shareholder, Samantha champions good business practices that she describes as: “Independent, unbiased and whole of market.”
She believes that access to financial products from all companies (rather than receiving restricted advice) is vital to providing the best for clients.
Sam loves nothing better than making a difference for the benefit of clients, and does not treat all accounts in the same way. She quickly recognised that a woman’s financial journey often took a different route to a man’s, which led her to launch a fresh and innovative brand called Women’s Wealth. Sam is frequently heard to state: “We are good for our clients and proud of ourselves,” And that is definitely the Pentins’ ethos.

Pentins FAQs
The Pentins name has a long history in Canterbury. Pentins originally began as an accountancy firm in 1926, with financial planning later developing as part of the services offered to clients.
Pentins Financial Planners has continued to evolve over the years, while keeping the same
focus on building long-term relationships and helping clients make good financial decisions.
Yes. Pentins Financial Planners has been owned by the Secomb family since 2016. While we have grown considerably since then, we have deliberately retained the personal feel of a smaller firm. We want our clients to know the people they are dealing with and to feel that they
can pick up the phone and speak to someone who knows them.
Yes. You will have a Financial Planner who takes responsibility for understanding you, your circumstances and what you want to achieve.
However, you don’t just get one person. Your Financial Planner is supported by our wider team of planners, paraplanners and administrators, who work together behind the scenes to look after your financial plan.
Financial planning involves much more than the conversations you have with your adviser.
There can be research, tax calculations, cashflow modelling, investment analysis, pension work, administration and ongoing reviews involved. Having a team with different skills and experience means we can bring the right people into your planning when they are needed.
It also means your relationship with Pentins isn’t dependent entirely upon one individual.
Our Paraplanners work closely with our Financial Planners to turn conversations and ideas into detailed financial planning.
They undertake research, analyse different options, complete calculations and help prepare recommendations and reports. They are an important part of the advice process and often develop an in-depth understanding of our clients’ financial arrangements.
Professional development is very important to us. Our Financial Planners hold professional financial planning qualifications, with Chartered and
Fellowship-level qualifications represented within the business.
We also actively encourage our paraplanners, administrators and developing advisers to work towards further professional qualifications. We believe that learning shouldn’t stop once somebody becomes qualified.
Yes – but we’ve tried to grow carefully. In 2022 another established team joined Pentins, bringing additional experience particularly in working with businesses, employers and workplace financial planning.
As we’ve grown, we’ve looked for people who share our approach to clients rather than simply trying to become a bigger firm for the sake of it.
We want financial planning to feel collaborative rather than something that is simply done to you.
That means helping you understand your options, talking through the consequences of different decisions and giving you the confidence to make informed choices. Our job isn’t just to tell you what financial product to buy. It’s to help you understand where you are, where you want to get to and how your finances can help you get there.
Your Plan starts here
At Pentins, we help people make confident financial decisions for today, and for the future. Whether you’re planning to retire, sell a business, pass on wealth, or simply make sense of your finances, we’re here to help you make a clear, confident plan that’s built around what matters most to you.
Start with a free, no-obligation chat – we’ll help you decide what’s possible.
